This is the largest private foundation in the U.S. supporting retina research. Since its inception, RRF has contributed over $31 million to retina research. Dr. Carvounis serves on the RRF's Board of Directors, is Chair of the RRF's Permanent Endowment Fund (2016-2017) and has served as Scientific Advisor on the Grants Review Committee since 2011. MVRPS makes an annual donation to the RRF.

Dr. Carvounis serves on the External Advisory Board of the McPherson Eye Research Institute at the University of Wisconsin and has done so since 2014. MVRPS makes an annual donation to the McPherson Eye Research Institute.

Macula Vitreous Retina Physicians & Surgeons is the 2018-2019 Season Sponsor for Opera in the Heights (Oh!). Macula Vitreous Retina Physicians & Surgeons has previously sponsored the 2017-2018 season as well. Dr. Carvounis has previously served on the Board of Directors of Opera in the Heights (2013-2015). Dr Carvounis was the honoree of Opera in the Heights annual Bravissimo Gala in 2014. Oh! puts together excellent productions in a small theater (Lambert Hall) in the Heights and serves as a springboard for young opera singers.

Dr. Carvounis has partaken in surgical expeditions with SEE International to Niger in West Africa and Honduras and MVRPS donates to SEE International to help restore surgery to patients in the developing world.
